If information has been programmed to a certain point on the map, a phone user will see moving graphics or messages on their device when they are there.
Gary Lovatt, from Manchester-based Gencia, said: “Augmented reality is a view of the virtual world on the physical world.“This is an opportunity to engage and capture the imagination of people throughout the city.
“It's an exciting project, and we wanted Manchester to experience it first.”
People spying the spirits are being advised to slay them by clicking on their phone screens – after posing for photographs.There will be prizes, such as cinema tickets and dinner for two, for the most creative pictures or for the most monsters found.Manchester will host the ghouls until November.
