An amazing new feature has rolled out today in the free Pleco dictionary app for iPhone: Real-time recognition and translation of Chinese text using the iPhone's camera.
This type of "augmented reality"-esque feature is known as Optical Character Recognition (OCR for short), and makes it possible to point your iPhone's camera at Chinese text on a page--or on a street sign, map, storefront, etc.--and get instant translation and pinyin for the character or extended phrase, so you can immediately understand it and sound it out for yourself.
