現時点では特定の言語でしか使用出来ないが、直ぐに主要言語を網羅するだろう。携帯端末でかざせば、不慣れな言語の翻訳がリアルタイムで行われる。旅先で困ることは少なくなるだろうし、リアルなコミュニケーションもスムースに行えるようになる。

文字を翻訳した後、自分の好みのボーカロイドが喋ったり、自分の声帯をデジタルレコーディングし、喋らせるというサービスが直ぐに思い浮かぶ。軽量HMDや、ARコンタクトレンズとの融合が行われれば、ハンズフリーで情報を収集出来るようになる。軽量HMDは日本でも幾つかの会社が発表しているので、技術的な問題は無い。あとは、情報インフラの整備、ハードウェアの低価格化が実施されるかどうかだ。

Word Lens calls itself the dictionary of the future. It instantly translates printed words right before your eyes. Just point and shoot -- and while you're at it -- book that flight to Spain. (Video from Quest Visual)

The app itself is free -- but if you want it to actually translate anything that's about $5 per language pack. And it's only offered in English and Spanish.

Small setbacks. Still - anchors at Portland's KOIN and CNN are gushing.
