Every Child Is An Artist: Digital Arts from Mercurial Dance on Vimeo.
Every Child Is An Artist is a new project created by Mercurial Dance, which aims to develop the skills, ability and imagination of all the children at Oasis Academy Hobmoor.
Each term we explore different media with the children and different ways to express the themes as we work towards creating a new exhibition, performance or event which we will share with their family, friends and the wider community. The project is delivered by Mercurial’s team of artists, who make and present work professionally; we are experienced in communicating our arts practice in educational settings and this is what enables us to really stretch the children’s imagination and ability.
The autumn terms theme is Digital, and we are we are creating an Augmented Reality (AR) 3D game, animations, coding and creating drawing robots using LittleBits and Makey Makey technology. We are exploring future and fantasy cities, as we reflect on what it is to grow up in Yardley. AR allows us to add layers of video, images, 3D models and more to the world around us and view it through an ipad app. In our exhibition at the end of this term, friends and family will be able to explore the virtual cities the children create, new inventions and animations by finding and scanning an AR markers across the school.
With a three year ambition to Every Child Is An Artist, the autumn term is just the beginning. In the spring term the focus is on visual arts and in the summer term, performing arts. As the children progress through the years they will engage and explore what it is to think and work like an artist, to develop their resilience, creative thinking and problem solving. We are using Arts Awards, Discover and Explore to champion and guide the children achievements through the project.
