AR企業のトータル・イマージョンとインテルの関係が強化
Intel has collaborated with Total Immersion to work on adding augmented reality to its semiconductor chips.
Total Immersion, the pioneer and global leader in Augmented Reality (AR), is now taking part of Intel’s initiative to include the technology into chipsets.
In a speech given at Reuters Global Media Summit, Total Immersion Marketing head Antoine Brachet announced the partnership with the chipmaker but declined modestly to give a specific date for commercial products to appear.
In March, Intel took a stake in Total Immersion through its investment arm, which led to a $5.5 million funding round in the firm.
“What we are doing together with Intel is working on their chipset…so inside the chipset you can have some AR features, like gesture recognition that can be transferred from software to hardware,” Brachet added.

ASIA No.1 の“野獣アイドル”グループ2PM(トゥーピーエム)をゲストに迎え、東京・銀座 ソニービルのクリスマスイルミネーション「Dream Xmas 2011」の点灯式が開催された。
クリスマスイルミネーション「Dream Xmas 2011」は、4万球のLEDを使用したクリスマスオブジェやソニーのAR技術“SmartAR”と音と映像を合わせて演出するされており、11月30日(水)〜12月25日(日)の期間にて開催する。
クリスマスオブジェが設置されている、ソニービル屋外のイベントスペース「ソニースクエア」に2PMが登場し、イルミネーション点灯のカウントダウンがスタート。白・青・緑の4万球のLEDを使用した煌びやかなイルミネーションが合図とともに点灯され、銀座の街を華やかに彩った。
同場所に設置するソニーの“SmartAR”を体験できる大画面ビジョンでは、実際に2PMメンバーがソニーのAR技術を体験。画面の中に映し出されたメンバーの頭上に雪や様々な形の光のオーナメントが降り注ぎ、「とてもきれいで感動しました。他にはないイルミネーションでとてもワクワクしますね。ぜひたくさんの人に体験していただきたいです!」と、ソニーのAR技術に大満足の様子。

the Toyota Fun-Vii, the car that surrenders to distracted drivers by turning itself into a smartphone.
The exterior of the Fun-Vii eschews paint for an electronic display for photos or videos; the unveiling shots show one presenter using the door panel as an iPhone-like touchscreen. Same goes for the interior, which Toyota says would blend traditional car navigation with augmented reality. And the Fun-Vii would connect with other vehicles and the environment to warn of driving dangers or just for fun, because everyone likes to status update on Facebook while driving.
Whether three people shown joyously riding in the Fun-Vii would actually enjoy such a ride will remain a mystery; there's no chance Toyota will build something like this. But the Fun-Vii does highlight the insecurity of major automakers, who see a generation of young people worldwide staring, touching and spending on their iPhones the way they once did on cars
A demo of Ogmento's Augmented Reality hand sketching game. Augmented Reality can be combined with hand sketching to create unique game experiences. These prototype games were developed to demonstrate this new concept and to support the study "In-Place Sketching for Content Authoring in Augmented Reality Games" by Nate Hagbi, Raphaël Grasset, Oriel Bergig, Mark Billinghurst, and Jihad El-Sana. This study was published as a research paper in the VR'2010 conference.
