E-learning evolves with smart devices
[Anchor]
According to a recent survey, more than half of Koreans have experienced e-learning, which is based on information and communications technology, also shortened as ICT. With the fast spread of smart devices, ICT is evolving in various ways. Let's take a look.

Images and information are emerging when putting textbooks in smartphones. By showing both imaginary and actual images that can't be seen in the textbooks, the learning effect is significantly improved. An Augmented Reality technology where the real world and three-dimensional virtual world are dubbed is applied to education. The three Dimensional structure also has changed the chalkboard. Combined with a 3D technology which doesn't require glasses, e-learning is not only expanding its arena, but also increasing learning efficiency.

(via & more http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/cons-products/food/mcdonalds-experiments-with-augmented-reality/articleshow/10232283.cms)MUMBAI: McDonald's recently introduced a new dessert McFlurry in India, a global icon for the brand. While the product launch is not the big news, the interesting thing about McFlurry is the use of augmented reality (AR) for promoting the brand on digital media.
"McDonald's was not much into digital earlier, so when we decided to enter the space we decided to do things differently. We had to speak a new language and to do something that could link globally," explains Rajdeep Chatterjee, marketing head, McDonald's (North & East).
AR helps give the user a combined experience of the virtual world and real world. The AR initiative has been rolled out by McDonald's in the North & East region only and Chatterjee says the response has been very positive. So how does AR works? In this case within a McDonald's store, a McDonald's employee can shoot any customer in the store and load this recording onto a TV screen within the store.

(via http://printmediacentr.com/2011/10/augmented-reality-meets-gesture-recognition-through-print-and-more/)To make its business software more effective, HP recently paid $10 billion for Autonomy, a U.K. software company that specializes in machine learning. But it turns out that Autonomy has developed image-processing techniques for gesture-recognizing augmented reality—the type of technology that could be more attractive to consumers than IT managers.
Augmented reality involves layering computer-generated imagery on top of a view of the real world as seen through the camera of a smart phone or tablet computer. So someone looking at a city scene through a device could see tourist information on top of the view.
Autonomy’s new augmented reality technology, called Aurasma, goes a step further: it recognizes a user’s hand gestures. This means a person using the app can reach out in front of the device to interact with the virtual content. Previously, interacting with augmented reality content involved tapping the screen. One demonstration released by Autonomy creates a virtual air hockey game on top of an empty tabletop—users play by waving their hands.

The Harbor Gallery proudly presents a landmark exhibition of international contemporary new media artists converging on the theme of “place” in its October exhibit, Mediating Place, curated by Meredith Hoy and Kevin Benisvy. The artists hail from New York City; Berkeley, Califonia; London, UK; China (exact wherabouts unkown); and our very own Boston, MA. They represent institutions as diverse as, University of California Berkeley, University of London, Emerson College, Mass Art, MIT, and University of Rochester and have work in the collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others. The show seeks to address issues of place in the environment, politics, the home, media and technology with work like Ben Bray’s periodic streaming video updates from his current expedition in the Arctic, John Craig Freeman (with Lily & Honglei, Mark Skwarek, Lalie S. Pascual, Caroline Bernard and 4Gentlemen) augmented reality installations famed for using their politically-minded virtual exhibitions, Ann Torke’s residual accumulation sculptures from the home, and much more.

If you’re reading this before 4:45pm GMT on Sunday 2 October 2011, you’re a Spurs fan and you happen to own either an Android or Apple smartphone, then you’re in luck. Pocket-lint’s App of the Day today is not something exclusive to you, but you’re going to get some very nice half time entertainment if you remember to download it before the home leg of the North London Derby.
Should you not be a member of the group above, then, fear not, it’s still worth a download. So, fingers on the trigger all the same.
------
The “Lite” part of the Aurasma Lite app rather cheapens it but, given that there’s currently no paid version of Aurasma out there, then you can rest assured that your free download - which this is - is fully featured. So, what the hell does it do, you might be asking yourself.
Aurasma is an augmented reality browser platform that uses your mobile phone’s camera to examine pictures from the outside world as it searches for images and patterns that it can match up with those same images and patterns that it happens to have logged and recorded up in the cloud on the Aurasma servers. Once it makes a match, the servers then send down whatever video or stills image content associated to play on your phone's screen.
In the case of Spurs, the club’s sponsor this year happens to be Autonomy which owns Aurasma. So what both Tottenham and their sponsor have organised is that if you hold your phone’s camera up to the Aurasma shirt logo at half time on Derby Day, you’ll get a load of footage of the best goals scored by Spurs in the Premier League so far this season. Thanks to Spurs’s 4-0 demolition of Liverpool the other weekend, it won’t be such a short video after all. Whether there will be the opportunity to add on any more after the first 45 minutes against Arsenal remains to be seen.

Developers can now download the public beta of the highly anticipated web technology based Augmented Reality platform.
Wikitude was excited to present the launch of its latest innovation at Droidcon Eastern Europe in Romania today.Since the initial announcement of Wikitude ARchitect at the ARE conference in Silicon Valley earlier this year, the first public beta ARchitect Development Kit (ADK) for Android is now available for download here.
The ADK is filled with information and specifications, which will help developers on their way to creating their very own AR experience. As well as the actual ARchitect Mobile Viewer, which let’s you test drive your AR World prior to publication, developers will find a set of documents explaining the library on code level including APIs and other useful tools, such as the ARchitect Desktop Engine, a simulator to execute ARchitect Worlds in a desktop browser.
There is so much developers can do with Wikitude’s ARchitect and the advanced features open unlimited possibilities with interaction, animations and media playback!
Download the Wikitude ARchitect Developer Kit today to find much more information including tutorials and demo videos and check out our Flickr page for high resolution images of Wikitude ARchitect.
Get the ADK and start building your ARchitect World today!
