(via YouTube)G George is the first augmented reality transformation of street art inside a gallery. In Lab Art, a Los Angeles gallery, when placing street artist Kai Aspire's "Masked" (George Washington) in the camera view of your smartphone (Android or Iphone), the painting unlocks a piece of augmented reality art, or ARt. This kind of augmented reality | artistic interaction is an example of hypAR-reality, which implodes the distinction between the "real" and the "imaginary." Triggered from the "real" world, the virtual "art" can reveal another layer of meaning, which is in this case... the "g"angster street artist we always knew G George was.

(via & more http://augmentedstories.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/new-work-first-ar-pop-up-book-for-ipad-2-and-iphone-4-using-image-recognition/ )Introducing a few sample pages from my new Augmented Reality (AR) Pop-up Book, “Who’s Afraid of Bugs?” with video and images below. I’d like to present the first AR Pop-up Book for mobile devices using image recognition (a.k.a. regular images to trigger augmented content, as opposed to the black and white square glyphs that are common in AR). Integrating image recognition in the design, the book can hence be enjoyed alone as a regular pop-up book, or supplemented with augmented digital content when viewed through a mobile device equipped with a camera, such as an iPad 2 or iPhone 4.
Playful rhyming text takes you through the storybook where various ‘creepy crawlies’ (spider, ant, and butterfly) are awaiting to be discovered, appearing virtually as 3D models you can interact with. A tarantula attacks when you touch it, an ant hyperlinks to educational content with images and diagrams, and a butterfly appears flapping its wings atop a flower in a meadow.

Rowling would be a sort of ARG – Augmented Reality Game – which would take place online and then send people out into the real world looking for clues of some sort. The Guardian had an interesting write-up about it which they claim came from a leak within Pottermore’s PR company, Adam & Eve. Aspiring wizards the world over would hope to find an undisclosed number of magic wands hidden throughout the UK and US – possibly other countries as well. The reality of the matter was far off. “COMIT’s mission is to promote the use of mobile technology within the UK construction industry by spreading best practice, promoting new developments and facilitating understanding between technology providers and construction companies.”KOREC were originally invited to participate in a COMIT project to investigate whether Augmented Reality can be of use in a construction environment, another member of COMIT invited us to join the team after we carried out a survey of the M1 Improvement project using the Trimble MX8 Mobile Scanner. The project is broken up into 3 phases. The first is to look at current technology and data on a live construction site, so that we can define the shortfalls within hardware, software and techniques. The second phase is to carry out research and development with an aim to solving the issue surrounding accurate real time locations and data guides. The final phase is to deploy a solution in a real world environment.
KOREC recently signed up as members of COMIT and we are already starting to take an active involvement with some of the research projects. Who exactly are COMIT I hear you asking? This is probably best explained by taking a quick look at the COMIT Mission:

Third Eye by Viewdle from Viewdle on Vimeo.
----(via & more http://www.teezoot.com/2011/06/android-equipped-with-facial-analysis.html )Facial recognition startup Viewdle has begun letting Android smartphone users see which of the people around them are vampires and which are vampire slayers.
A "Third Eye" augmented reality game released by the San Francisco company online at viewdle.com is the first installment in a trilogy that will culminate in a battle between the undead and defenders of the living. It was also intended as a fun demonstration of a powerful software platform that lets smartphone cameras recognize what they see and potentially support services such as sight for the blind or memories for the forgetful. "It is true science fiction on some level," Viewdle chief product officer Jason Mitura told AFP.

We all use it, know it, and trust it, but how exactly is Yelp so good at what they do? Starting in 2004, Yelp took local reviews and word-of-mouth to the digital space. Now with over 18 million reviews, Yelp boasts an impressive “100% growth across the board,” according to CEO Jeremy Stoppelman. Preparing for an IPO in the near future, Yelp is as excited as we are about all the things they have to offer.
Andrea Rubin, Yelp’s Vice President of Marketing North America, took time to speak with brandchannel about their digital strategy. She attributes their success in part to mobile expansion, part to their commitment to local, and part to fun.

リアルタイムで人の動作を反映されるデモや、高速認識エンジンが素晴らしい!
A small London-based company called String Labs has developed a new augmented reality (AR) engine - which merges both your real-world environment and a virtual one.
After installing an app on an iPhone or iPad users can experience AR at home. In the future this could mean we could walk around our favourite bands as they perform in the comfort of our living room. Spencer Kelly tried it out.
