In this video we show a prototype BPMN process modelling tool which uses Augmented Reality techniques to increase the sense of immersion when editing a process model.
The avatar represents a remotely logged in user, and facilitates greater insight into the editing actions of the collaborator than present 2D web-based approaches in collaborative process modelling.
We modified the Second Life client to integrate the ARToolkit in order to support pattern-based AR.

Open Source version of this project will be available soon.

An outdoor billboard that uses an iPhone app to interact with the public through a set of dynamic elements, powered by the real world, allowing a game that uses a mix of tools ever combined so far. We developed an augmented reality (AR) application, to play against the billboard in real-time, shooting the bad guys and polishing one's shooting style as if in a shooting salon, through the iPhone camera, and thanks to the gyroscope and the geolocation system. Spot Metrix this week announced the availability of a mapping API for their 3DAR augmented reality iPhone SDK. Augmented reality allows smart phone users to see nearby locations by superimposing geographic data on top of a camera view. While many existing iPhone apps have this capability, it has traditionally been a difficult and time consuming feature to build into an applications. What is significant about the new 3DAR API is that it enhances the standard map view provided to developers by Apple, allowing developers to extend mapping applications with augmented reality in just minutes.

The new API was demonstrated this week at the Augmented Reality Event to an audience of mobile developers and natural user interface design experts. Existing customers have published apps such as SP Next Bus and Japanoramic, however, the ease of 3DAR’s new Mapping API opens up augmented reality to a wide number of developers.

Developers can download a free version of the SDK from the 3DAR website, http://www.3dar.us

Arriving a quarter hour early for a central London briefing this morning I decided to sit in leafy St James's Square, near Piccadilly, to scan the latest tweets. But before I could do so I spotted a man on a street corner staring intently at an iPad 2 he had trained on the gates to the square. He showed me what he was watching: onscreen, Marilyn Monroe was apparently dancing in a bright yellow summer dress in the morning sunshine on the edge of the square before us. The guy was beaming at the sheer quality of the augmented reality imagery.
