Sony Corp. developed "An integrated technology "SmartAR (smart AR)"" that adopted an efficient maker-less method that two dimension bar code is not used etc. in the AR technology that was able to display information that was not able to be known on the screen by a usual sight and additive information such as virtual objects when taking a picture with the camera such as smart phones.
It announces in Sony Bldg in Tokyo Ginza on May 19, 2011. I hear the assumption of use with a smart phone and the personal computer rapidly widespread, and the aim of the commercial use to the advertisement and the game, etc.
AR can be used without a special marker by using "Object recognition technology" that recognizes a general object such as photographs and posters. Natural AR has been achieved by quickly displaying AR information on the screen by combining the match technology that uses a part of the image with the image tracking technology, and high-speed following to the movement of the camera. I hear that 3D space recognition technology used the technology that cultivates it by the robotic developments such as "AIBO" and "QRIO" of this company.

ソニー株式会社は、スマートフォン等のカメラで撮影した際、画面に通常の視覚では知ることが出来ない情報や仮想的な物体などの付加情報を表示させることが出来る拡張現実技術において、2次元バーコードを使用しない高性能なマーカレス方式等を採用した「統合型AR技術 "SmartAR (スマートAR)"」を開発した。
2011年5月19日、東京銀座のソニービルにて発表。急速に普及しているスマートフォンやパソコンでの利用を想定しており、広告やゲームなどへの商用利用を目指すとのこと。
写真やポスターなど一般的な物体を認識する「物体認識技術」を使い、特殊なマーカーなしでARを利用できる。画像の一部を使ったマッチング技術と画像トラッキング技術を組み合わせることで、AR情報を素早く画面上に表示し、カメラの動きに高速追従することで自然なARを実現している。3D空間認識技術は、同社の「AIBO」や「QRIO」などのロボット開発で培った技術を用いたとのこと。
