ARt = Augmented Reality art. RL + AR = ARtYou can find out more about the project at jasonOhler.com/aste2013.
Imagine looking at something on the art gallery wall through your iPad and down from the cloud comes additional artwork that mixes with it.
This video explains the Augmented Reality art (ARt) gallery project that I curated at the Alaska Society for Technology in Education (ASTE) conference in February, 2013. I built the AR presence using Aurasma software, set up the RL art gallery at the conference, and - thanks to many students, teachers and parents - was able to show many pieces of student ARt work. Intense, fun, and so interesting. The project involved literally hundreds of submissions largely from Alaska, but also from Prague, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, New Zealand, Missouri and Massachusetts. Many thanks to the ASTE, AASG and the parents, teachers and students who made this possible. Go here to see a one minute version of this movie:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmompg...
A new telepresence system for Google Glass has allowed two surgeons to cooperate during an operation as if they were both in the room.(via http://vr-zone.com/articles/new-augmented-reality-surgery-may-big-leap-forward/63232.html)
A surgical team at the University of Alabama has performed the world’s first surgery using an augmented reality system called VIPAAR that works with Google Glass. VIPAAR, which stands for Virtual Interactive Presence in Augmented Reality (don’t ask where the extra A comes from), is a technology developed locally at the university and could be an important step forward in the development of tele-presence medicine. University of Alabama orthopedic surgeon Brent Ponce, M.D., performed a shoulder replacement surgery in september and received help via VIPAAR from Phani Dantuluri, M.D., from his office in Atlanta.
Still toiling away with a tape measure like some sort of carpentry-savvy caveman? It’s 2013 – get yourself a laser measure already. Not only are they faster, easier, and more accurate than tape, but some of the newer ones – like the GLM 100 C Professional from Bosch – can interface with your smartphone to do all kinds of nifty next-gen stuff.(via http://electronews1.blogspot.jp/2013/11/boschs-new-laser-rangefinder-augments.html)
The GLM 100 C Professional retails for $300, and is available both online and at physical retail locations.
We know a product sample is not always enough to help you decide which of our floors will look best in your space. Although our samples allow you to feel the surface texture of our flooring, you also want to know what the floor will look like with your cabinets, wallpaper, furniture, bathroom suite – the list goes on.In order to help you narrow down your choices and truly visualise what a new Karndean floor could look like in your home, we’ve created a brand new iPad and iPhone app that’s sure to change the way you buy flooring.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- It was if the surgeon had another set of hands to help during surgery to replace a shoulder. Floating ethereally over the surgeon's own hands, the hands guided and pointed as the surgeon worked the scalpel. They were virtual hands from a doctor more than 100 miles away in Atlanta. Using Google Glass, a wearable computer with head-mounted display, and using virtual technology developed by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brent Ponce performed a shoulder replacement surgery Sept. 12 at UAB Highlands Hospital, UAB announced today. From Atlanta, Dr. Phani Dantuluri watched, talked and virtually placed his hands into the surgical field.(via http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/10/uab_surgeon_performs_surgery_u.html)
