When Metaio augments something, it stays Augmented.
This video shows Metaio's research into improving location-based Augmented Reality experience. Notice how with the GPS data, the augmentations (3-D models) are shaky and inaccurate. With Metaio's research algorithms, the models "snap" into place instantly and intuitively using our "snapping" algorithm, where it will stay, anchored by the original GPS coordinates and our unique real-world (3-D) object tracking algorithms.
This is part of our instant visual map creation tool, now available with our augmented reality production software at http://dev.metaio.com
Developers can try it for themselves athttps://dev.metaio.com/toolbox/instant-mapping/
(via YouTube by ARworksReality)Check this video, where we test the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, iPad2, IPad3 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X and the LG 4X HD against each other running AR apps developed by us, ARworks.
Augmented Reality (AR) applications are ideal to test the speed of smartphones. When a mobile device runs an AR app, processors, cores, memory has to do 2 very heavy tasks simultaneously. They have to analyze the live camera picture to find the so called marker picture and at the same time calculate 3D coordinates, surfaces, lights, shadows the usually 3 dimensional, animated content. What's more, screens are tested as well, since the generated AR content has to be displayed as well.
More and more phones can handle AR apps pretty nicely but only the best ones can do it perfectly. However this will change rapidly and within one year no phones will have any problem to display the exciting AR content on its screen.
(via YouTube by spectrummag)A new motion capture gadget from Microsoft Research provides all the control of a 3-D gaming glove. But Digits is a wrist worn sensor that leaves you barehanded and free to touch other objects. With an infrared camera, a MEMS motion sensing chip, and some software trickery it creates a 3-D model of your hand that responds to movements with fingertip precision.
The Digits prototype allows the wearer to answer a phone call with a thumbs up, change a television channel with a flick of a finger, play videos games without a controller, translate sign language into text—and maybe even touch type without a keyboard someday.
David Kim, one of the creators, sat down with IEEE Spectrum via Skype to dissect a Digits demo video. Kim is a PhD fellow at Newcastle University who works with the Interactive 3-D Technologies group at Microsoft Research Cambridge, the same lab responsible for other crazy augmented reality projects like KinEtre, HoloDesk, and Vermeer.
Digits could easily be built as a watch-sized gadget for every day wear, says Kim. It isn't anywhere close to market, but here's hoping.

(via YouTube by ModPay)This talk was given at EFMA Mobile Payments 2012 for Mobey Forum and looks at NFC from a wider technology point of view, showing how user behaviour is driven, that helps in bringing NFC payments main-stream.
In comparison with the introduction and adoption of previous technologies it is demonstrated that NFC too is being accepted and spread at a fast rate.
Future commerce enhancements further to NFC are also briefly introduced including clever uses of Augmented Reality (AR), advancements in robotics, and wearable payments.

(via YouTube by Скобель Олександр)I think that Google Project Glass (and similar augmented reality gadgets) soon will change our life. These technologies can replace a lot of devices (PC, TV, mobile, etc.)
In this short movie, I suggest two useful (in my opinion) properties: Public Messages and Virtual Workplace.
Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is in the process of retrofitting a 100 year old historic building in Boston, Massachusetts and turning it into a living laboratory; recording data from all of the systems installed throughout the building, showcasing the latest clean energy technologies, and becoming their new laboratory headquarters.
Within this building, they will be creating an Interactive Lobby Showcase which will include the use of exciting, cutting edge technologies including: hand gesturing recognition cameras, eye tracking software, 3-D televisions without glasses, visible light communication, and Augmented Reality. We are planning to use these technologies as both an attraction piece, as well as a teaching instrument to educate people about sustainable energy systems.
My team is in charge of the Augmented Reality exhibit. We are attempting to bring AR to a level is has yet to achieve, by tying in the real-time building data with the AR visuals. This is what we have created so far. These are just concept models, and still have a lot of work to be done.

To celebrate the launch of Mirror Mirror on DVD, Val Morgan Retail Media and Roadshow Home Entertainment have created an innovative augmented reality experience in key shopping centres.
By standing in front of the interactive screen, shoppers can "dress" in one of the many costumes featured in the movie and photos then uploaded to Facebook to share with friends. The campaign is supported by a 30" creative running across Val Morgan Retail Media screens promoting the DVD release.

The winning submission was entered into ArtPrize 2012, the world's largest monetary prize art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI. Tyler Wayner's winning submission, MedMileMINI, is a multi-level design and a tribute to the Medical Mile. (via http://events.augmentedplanet.com/)Why Attend?
Now in its 4th year, Augmented Planet is the UK’s largest augmented reality conference. Taking place over 2 days, the conference provides a unique insight into the development, opportunities and benefits of augmented reality. This conference brings together industry advocates, technology providers and brands looking to learn more about the future of augmented reality.
This is my Augmented Reality reel. To view simply follow instructions. The program used and needed to view the "AR" content is called "Aurasma".
