In collaboration with Terence Clark, Matthew Betts, and Andrea Gilchrist of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities in the Department of History Shawn Graham's First Year Seminar 1405a, 'Digital Antiquity' class produced an augmented reality pop-up book of artifacts from the museum's storerooms.
Graham has used the platform 123D Catch to transform one-dimensional images into three-dimensional models, and then the Junaio augmented reality browser, from an otherwise ordinary book into an intimate, three-dimensional experience that allows the viewer to interact with the artifact as an object, as if they were viewing it firsthand. All you need is a Smartphone.

(via YouTube by isdgovhk )The largest exhibition of national cultural relics from the Qin Dynasty will be held at the Museum of History from July 25 to November 26, as part of celebrations for the 15th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
It will showcase 120 items, of which nearly 40% are Grade I relics. Terracotta warriors and horses will be on display, and are the exhibition's theme.
Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Raymond Young said it will be different from the museum's previous exhibitions on the Qin and Han Dynasties. "This exhibition will focus on the Qin Dynasty only. The relics on display will be introduced from a new perspective and presented in innovative ways."
The museum will use advanced multimedia and audio-visual presentation technologies, such as projection, digital animation, computer techniques and augmented reality technology to give visitors an interactive experience. (http://j.mp/ME2GKi )

Traditional advertising delivers. But it does not engage. Digital advertising delivers and engages, but it is not exciting enough. Games are exciting and engaging, but it is not ‘real’ enough. Enter Augmented Reality: engaging, exciting and high on deliverables.
An extension of virtual reality, augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory inputs such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called ‘mediated reality’, in which a view of reality is modified by a computer. As a result, the technology enhances one’s current perception of reality. According to the industry, the trend of using AR to reach out to the ‘butterfly consumer’ is on an upswing.
Even as India is late to catch up on the AR fad, brands are increasingly using the tool to create strong engagement options.

Currently, AR campaigns are usually coupled with other digital campaigns. While there are no industry estimates about the size of AR industry, Tibrewala estimated that about 100 AR-based applications are developed in India every year. And with 3G prices dropping, 4G on the anvil and Smartphone and other mobile device sales picking up in India, and the fact that brands need newer tools to engage consumers, the number is set to swell. “AR today is expensive to develop, relatively unknown in the mainstream, and brands are using it tactically to break media clutter. However, fast-forward a few months and we’ll find that brands will create ways of using it as a means of not only grabbing attention but adding genuine value to the customer’s experience with the brand,” concluded Mallik.

Hundreds of San Franciscans and guests gathered at the Fairmont on May 31st to see a different kind of reality -- the Augmented Reality. The show of augmented reality startups span from satelite visions of the sky, to ability to see veins inside your body. Augmented reality is not a different reality, rather it is the reality you and I know, only with a better interface, so to say. The battle between the startups was over the best augmentation of our reality, plus a business model.
