    とてもためになりそうなWindows PhoneでARを実装するための動画

This is the first in a series of presentations on Augmented Reality on Windows Phone. In this first presentation I cover the basics of ensuring that your device supports that APIs needed for augmented reality. I then show how to retrieve information from the Motion API about the devices orientation and how to interpret. The presentation closes with demonstrating how to render the view of the phone's camera onto the screen.

    刺青からARとは...容易にはできないだろうなあ

The augmentat was born on September 26th, 2011 at the first Digital World Expo held at the Mirage Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. The theory was that if image recognition could happen on a 2-D plane, it should be adaptable for a 3D canvas on live, living tissue. Thus the tattoo was created with specific image recognition points inherent in the design which were used for the custom reader to pick up. The reader referenced an executable file on the server and voila! AR technology is open to a whole new world of possibilities. This along with other experimental mediums can be seen at Digital World Expo each year.

With a market size projected to reach $ 1.5 billion by 2015, leading brands such as Intel, Qualcomm and Nvidia are investing in augmented reality (AR) applications in gaming, advertising and e-commerce.Entrepreneurs and investors alike are evaluating the most profitable AR use cases, predicting how they will merge together to create physical world experiences alive with virtual world environments.

According to Juniper Research, enterprise apps with AR elements are expected to account for the third-largest proportion of revenues by 2015, second only to location-based search and games. The rise of the tablet and smartphone, with powerful 3D, 4G and high-res cameras, combined with significant advances in computer vision, are finally unleashing the full power of augmented reality.

Successes in big-brand AR projects by Adidas, Starbucks, BMW and Boeing have proven the link between dynamic consumer experiences and direct product sales. Prominently downloaded mobile applications such as Paranormal Activity by Ogmento, Star Walk by Vito Technology and Lego’s recent AR project (which runs on the second-gen Sandy Bridge Intel processor) demonstrate the demand for AR experiences by the mass market.

    • How will these developments change the game for retailers, advertisers, teachers and game developers?
    • Which monetization models will be most successful?
    • When will we see mainstream use of AR goggles and contact lenses?

ESPN UK will today premiere a jaw-dropping virtual soccer analysis system named ESPN Arena during the Chelsea against Everton game (only on UK TV).

The augmented reality system will allow ESPN pundits such as Kevin Keegan and Craig Burley to analyze tactics, positioning and key moments in games on a tabletop device that has computer generated characters.

It sounds intriguing, but the best way to visualize how well the system looks is to watch the accompanying video. In the example below, you can see how the ESPN UK pundits focus on Juan Mata who seemingly comes to live on the screen in front of you.

ESPN Arena is based around a 65-inch touchscreen built into a table, and reportedly cost ESPN UK £150,000. The technology is developed by a company in London named RT Software, who have worked with Sky Sports, IMG and Setanta.

Bringing to the Android Market what I consider one of the only useful augmented reality apps in existence, iOnRoad has introduced iOnRoad Augmented Driving. This app utilizes your Android device's rear camera to have a look at traffic in front of you, and, using complex visual algorithms, it determines headway, speed, direction, and potential traffic threats.

What's more, the app still keeps watching, and keeps you abreast of any potential dangers while running in the background, meaning you can switch to your music player, messaging app, or phone, and still get alerts from iOnRoad.

It’s been on the drawing boards for years and now the BMW Group is taking the wraps off of what has been highly conceptual work. Augmented reality has been on iPhones since 2008 but the technology has the potential to be much more of a watershed change in the way we drive and interact with technology. Will it come to MINI? As we’ve seen over the years, everything developed in the labs in Munich that sees the light of day in high-end BMWs eventually makes it across the model ranges. When? Think the next decade rather than next year. But before we get to that, lets take a look back.

In 2004, the BMW Group was the first automotive manufacturer to bring out a colour Head-Up Display which projected driving-related information directly in the driver’s line of sight. In early 2011 the latest generation of this system was introduced, featuring full-colour graphics. But already the BMW researchers and developers are working on a new milestone in this technology which will see the Head-Up Display acquiring “contact analogue” functionality. This is a technique whereby virtual “markings” are superimposed on real objects in the external environment, so that navigation information or information from the driver assistance systems can be displayed at exactly the right points on the driver’s view of the road scene. Navigation instructions can be blended into the road, and vehicles or safety-relevant objects can be highlighted or marked in context.

MALAYSIA. Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad has launched a new retail and rebranding campaign entitled ‘Indulge Till You Fly’, supported by an innovative iPhone/iPad application and a television commercial.

The campaign underscores Malaysia Airports’ overall strategy to create a lifestyle environment for travellers at the different airports under its Airports Commercial Model (ACM) development plan. Under ACM, all 39 airports managed by the airport company are classified into four categories: Lifestyle, Leisure, Community and Corporate Responsibility.

ACM will also see the evolution of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from an aviation hub to a self-sufficient and multi-functional ‘airport city’ that moves ahead with time and offers continuous excitement, the company said.

    iButterfly Asia

To spread awareness of the campaign, Malaysia Airports has deployed a new iPhone/iPad2 application called iButterfly Asia, created by Dentsu Digital Asia.

The airport company is said to be the first Malaysian organisation to use this innovative mobile information and couponing technology to drive retail and food & beverage sales at its international airports. The app has already enjoyed success in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, Malaysia Airports said.

iButterfly Asia combines three technologies – augmented reality, global positioning system and motion sensors – to give travellers a fun and entertaining platform to enjoy the offerings of participating airport retailers and F&B outlets.

Designed to engage audiences and reach out to a wider segment of consumers via paper-less ‘coupon entertainment’, the challenge to consumers is to catch butterflies – each containing a different discount coupon, product offering and promotion – seen through the iPhone/iPad2 camera viewfinder by swinging the iPhone like a butterfly net, and then put them in a collection.

Throughout the Indulge Till You Fly campaign period, consumers will be able to catch these butterflies using their iPhones/iPad2 and take advantage of iButterfly Asia exclusive offers. Once users capture their butterflies, they will be able to redeem them for free beverages and exclusive GWPs from participating retailers.

Consumers can decide when and where they wish to collect promotional offers and information with each butterfly being unique to the participating retailers. Initial participating brands are Delifrance Café & Bakery, L’Occitane and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. More retailers are expected to come on board throughout the duration of the Indulge Till You Fly campaign.

Malaysia Airports will ‘release’ a total of 10 virtual butterflies throughout the duration of the campaign.

McDonald’s India recently launched their Oreo McFlurry sundae nationwide with a stunning Augmented Reality campaign based on junaio. Pointing the smartphone’s camera at a picture of the tasty dessert let the McFlurry cup suddenly swirl and bounce, with chocolate tablets flying up and exploding chocolate chips all over the creamy surface.

    • Smartphone users can experience it of course in junaio on iPhone and Android. A QR code on ads and posters helps to quickly download junaio for those who haven’t got it installed yet.
    • The picture of the product in McFlurry ads in newspapers and magazines serves as marker for smartphones or tablets.
    • The effect also works on PCs using the PC camera. Go to www.imlovingit.in and hold the picture against the webcam – bingo!
    • Similarly in the McDonald’s stores, large free standing cardboard posters invite customers to experience the AR display with their smartphones.
    • There people can take a picture of themselves with the virtual McFlurry and post it Facebook.
    • And for those who don’t own a smartphone, there are McDonald’s stores with dedicated PC kiosks containing a high end graphic PC, large screen and webcam. When people have finished their meal they can take their printed tray mat to the PC kiosk, hold it up in front of the camera, and see the animated, virtual McFlurry cup appearing over the tray mat.

The campaign was realized by the the HIT Lab NZ (www.hitlabnz.org) and its partner Patched Reality (http://patchedreality.com/).

    Windows Phone 7.1(5)を使用したロケーションタイプのARを実現するためのツールキット

Today's project show's off one of my favorite new capabilities available with Windows Phone 7.1(5)*, how you can incorporate augmented reality into your "real world" applications. We've seen the demo's and samples, but today we're looking at an AR toolkit that adds AR to your geography based apps.

Image you're near a "restaurant row" trying to decide which one to go to. Sure you could look up each place but where's the cool that? Instead, what if you were to simply hold up your phone, point it at the restaurant and then see floating over it its rating? Then as you turn around, as each restaurant comes into view its rating also appears. Now that's cool...

And that's what we're highlighting today... An app that does that and the toolkit that makes it possible.
