スマートフォンに写した文字をリアルタイムに翻訳することができる、Word Lens（ワールド・レンズ）。確か2年以上まえからネット上やテレビでも紹介されている。ソチオリンピックでも使われているようだ。言語カートリッジが豊富なり日本語でも利用できるようになることに期待したい。

On the same day as the opening ceremonies for the Sochi 2014 Olympics, Quest Visual, Inc. added a new language to their Word Lens Translator – you guessed it, Russian.

Word Lens is a real time visual text translation service, categorized as an augmented realityapplication. Simply point your device’s camera at the desired text and it will be instantly translated right on your screen.

Word Lens has been around for a while and already offered bi-directional translations between English and Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese. Russian was a no brainer inclusion considering the impact that Olympic games have on the world. I suspect that even those of us that are not bundling up for the winter games, will still run across a bit of Russian here or there in the next few weeks. We do not need to be one of the thousands of English speaking, smartphone touting athletes, coaches, family, friends, fans or media from around the globe headed to Russia for the games, to benefit from Word Lens.

Oculus Rift (オキュラス・リフト)の技術で実現されている、仮想空間上に3DCGアニメーションを合成したARのデモ。登場する竜や動物たちはとれも自然に世界に溶け込んでいる。



This is a simulation of a theoretical RPG (being played through Oculus Rift technology) based in the Wawel Castle in the centre of Krakow. All 3D animations are royalty-free and not of my own making.

画像認識技術を使用することにより、アプリのカメラで商品のパッケージをかざすだけで商品が検索し、購入できる仕組みをアマゾンが実現した。今まではバーコードによる認識のみであった。日本にはまだこのバージョンは適用されていないが、遅かれ早かれ導入されることになるかもしれない。

スポーツの訓練でも、仮想技術はとても効果がありそうだ。ここでは、HUDのOculus Rift を使用したラグビーの仮想訓練が行われている様子が分かる。この臨場感を感じることで心の恐怖心を克服し精神面を訓練することができるのかもしれない。

最近話題の没入型HMD Oculus Rift(オキュラスリフト)にカメラと手に装着するセンサーにより、手の操作により仮想空間に次々と仮想のオブジェクトを配置することができるというデモ。



A researcher at University College London has developed a prototype augmented reality system which enables users to interact with virtual objects, avatars and websites. The system, developed by William Steptoe, uses a head-mounted display and panels fitted to the hands to insert virtual objects into the room in which you sit or stand. In this demonstration he uses the technology to interact with objects around him and brings up tablet-like displays to get online. The system has been developed as part of a joint research initiative established by UCL and BBC Research & Development.

医療現場ではすでにHMD-ARの技術が導入されている。腕の血管が透けているように見ることができるため、間違えることなく血管に注射針を刺すことができる。吸血鬼が用いたら大変便利かもしれないと想像してしまう。

If you’re looking for veins, Evena’s glasses can reveal them with a high-tech 3D light imaging system that maps the body’s vasculature. Nurses, unlike vampires, have a humane and compelling need for a better view of all those blood vessels lying beneath the skin. One of their most common tasks is to set up an intravenous line so that patients can receive fluids containing drugs or nourishment, or so blood can be drawn for diagnosis. But finding and correctly piercing a vein with a needle can be a sticky job.

自動車や機器のメンテナンスで拡張現実技術を利用する事例やデモは今までも多々あるが、このような大型エンジンの整備での活用提案は今までは見たことがない。人命にかかわる機器に対しては効果が大きいだろう。ここで紹介されている大型端末の利用も良いが、半没入タイプのHMDが利用できるとより実用的となるだろう。

スコットランドを走るバスのシートの裏側に貼られたシールに、スマホ専用アプリのARで楽しめるプロモーションが実施されている。



Augmented reality technology allows customers to scan a trigger on seat backs to open up a channel of interactive videos with a choice of content including interviews with staff, information about services, view theatre trailers, buy theatre tickets or surf the internet. The initiative has been introduced on 35 First Aberdeen buses in the city which feature free WiFi for customers. Since its launch in November last year, thousands have accessed the channel content.

ロシア空港の外観を、AR技術を使用して展示。iPad およびマルチディスプレイが使されている。



Интерактивная инсталляция с применением дополненной реальности для компании Аэропорты Регионов -- крупнейшего аэропортового холдинга России. Проект реализован к выставке "Транспорт России 2013". В инсталляции продемонстрированы следующие аэропорты: Кольцово, Курумоч, Стригино, Южный, Центральный, Емельяново, Большое Савино. Новизна разработки в том, что кроме iPad в данной инсталляции также применяется трекинг с дополнительной камеры и вывод изображения на большой экран.

博物館や美術館を今まで以上に楽しむことができるのは、拡張現実技術を使用したツール。この画像やビデオを見ていただくと分かるが、展示物や展示場所のクリエイティブを損なうことなく、個々が好きなタイミングで必要な情報を得ることができる。画像認識、位置情報認識、3D認識も実現するドイツのmetaioの認識技術が利用されている。

Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs introduces the shop we curated for Selfridges' Festival of Imagination, which includes a virtual retail experience for Dezeen Watch Store and a life-size walkaround digital model of Zaha Hadid's superyacht - both created by technology company Inition. "The Imagine Shop is an attempt to visualise the kind of products, services and shops we might have in the future," says Fairs.

The space on the ground floor of the department store contains all wall of 3D-printed products and clothing by Janne Kyttanen of 3D Systems, and even features a giant printed ping-pong table. "The most exciting thing here is that we've worked with Inition, which is a 3D visualisation company, to show how augmented reality could be used in stores of the future," Fairs says.

家具のブランド Fingo が、iPad向けのAR家具配置シミュレーションアプリをリリースしてる。IKEAや電気メーカーなどでも配置シミュレーションアプリは多々あるが、商品の種類や多くの機能でより楽しめる実用的なアプリに仕上がっている。
