Augmented reality enables consumers to virtually try on jewelry, watches, clothing and handbags. The technology requires object recognition and computerization on the PCs or mobile devices as well as 3D rendering to superimpose images on the real world. “Saying that augmented reality is a must-have implies that it is a fleeting trend,” said Jonathan Chippindale, CEO of Holition, London. “Eventually, this will be just another marketing channel. “Luxury brands will just add augmented reality within their ecommerce and print ads,” he said.
Holition develops augmented reality Web sites for luxury brands like Tossi, DeBeers, BMW, Boucheron, Tag Heuer and Tocari.

United 3D Labs developed the Augmented Reality for the both of ROCKWOOL Company at the exibition MosBuild 2013.
Augmented Reality is an integration of virtual 3D elements in the image of the real world. For the Augmented Reality of ROCKWOOL these virtual elements were bear, wolve, deer and serval.
Professional video camera transmits images of the booth on the videowall, and a special sensor detects the position of the visitors. If no one is close to the videowall, in the Augmented Reality on the screen animals just walking around the booth. But is anyone of the visitors come to the stand, the sensor detects the position of the person and a realistic image of the animal appears right next to him -- the wolf looking into the eyes, the bear waving paws, the dissatisfied serval or the phlegmatic deer.
Played with animals, visitors can come to the multitouch table to print their pictures with virtual animals or send e-mail with them.
Augmented Reality of the ROCKWOOL booth had a huge sucsess. Just over 2,000 printed pictures in 4 days of the exhibition!

TechCrunch, the leading technology media property dedicated to startups, reviews, and breaking tech news, brings you the latest from SXSW 2013.
IT consulting company Avanade, a subsidiary of Accenture that is part owned by Microsoft, has developed an interactive shopping solution called Grab & Go that combines NFC, QR codes, augmented reality and the Kinect for Windowsmotion sensor technology that was first developed for Xbox games.
The solution enables users to view and select products from a main screen and then transfer items to their mobile device for review or purchase, all with a Minority Report-style swipe of the hand.
Consumers stand in front of the screen and then tap their Windows Phone 8 device to a tag or scan a QR code to enable Grab & Go to connect with their device and launch a web application on their phone. They can then use simple hand gestures to point to items of interest and have them transferred to their mobile phone.

(via & more http://www.jingdaily.com/fashion-and-tech-finally-starting-to-collide-in-china/24836/)As China’s young, tech-savvy and mobile-obsessed middle-class consumers develop an interest in fashion, brands are finding that digital marketing via Weibo or WeChat might not be enough to drive shoppers to stores or boost online sales. In tandem with the smartphone boom that has swept China over the past half-decade has been a rise in popularity of apps that give shoppers not only a richer, more personalized experience but also a compelling reason to go from online to offline. (Which brands have traditionally done through in-store promotions or giveaways.)
Though some luxury, auto, and jewelry brands have experimented with tech-infused campaigns — here Buick’s augmented reality (AR) app springs to mind — fashion brands have been slower to incorporate cutting-edge tech into their China strategies.
However, this is changing, and changing quickly. This week, one of the more interesting collisions of fashion in tech and fashion in China is on display at the China International Clothing and Accessories Fair (CHIC), an 800 square meter “Fashion and Mobile Zone” developed by the fashion technology company 360Fashion. Running through March 29, the zone showcases how fashion brands can use augmented reality in retail spaces and advertising campaigns to boost their brand-building efforts, generate user interactivity, and drive offline sales.

Back in February, I reviewed Sphero, the awesome iPhone-controlled ball from Orbotix, which I had a blast playing with.
When Sphero launched in late 2011, it came with few apps. Since that time, Orbotix has been hard at work creating new ways for people to use Sphero, including augmented reality apps. The company released its first AR title, Sharky the Beaver, which uses Sphero to control and play with a virtual beaver.
Orbotix is working on other augmented reality apps such as The Rolling Dead, a zombie-AR game, and today, Orbotix released a new Sphero Augmented Reality plug-in for Unity. The plug-in is designed to allow app developers to use their own 3-D models to create games, using Sphero as a control option.
The plug-in provides vision detection by automatically coordinating the camera and ball position, distance, orientation and more. The plug-in forms a bridge between Unity and Sphero’s native Android and iOS SDKs.

What is the most frequent reason of shopping cart abandonment or return of the clothing purchased online? Buying of apparel at the web store always makes customers question their choice and even send things back after trying on because of the poor fit. According to statistics, return rate of the average online clothing retailer may exceed 20%. Most of the rollbacks occur due to the customers’ discontent of how the item actually looks on them.
From distant times of the first e-commercial stores, their owners and developers make everything possible to abate the level of returns by means of various tools like size charts, zoom and 360 degree shots, helping shoppers make deliberate decisions.
These days more and more e-retailers begin to make use of augmented reality, which lets them simulate a kind ofvirtual fitting room, where customers may try on the selected items, change them for recommended ones and share their experience with friends in order to get instant feedback. As you understand, all those actions are taken without leaving house.
