Dezeen and MINI Frontiers: architects will soon be able to walk around inside 3D sketches of their projects and edit their designs as they go, according to the team behind the revolutionary Gravity Sketch 3D drawing pad.
"You've done the CAD drawing and you want to make some amendments in the virtual reality that you've just created," said Oluwaseyi Sosanya, one of a team of four Royal College of Art and Imperial College London students who developed the device. "You can you can just plug in with [virtual reality headset] Oculus Rift and walk around this environment and make amendments."

Everyone and their dog has a language training app but does everyone and their dog have an augmented reality solution that aims to teach you Chinese using clever little blocks and a webcam? No, they don’t. That’s why there are ChineseCubes. ChineseCubes are the brainchild of Rex How, the head of a major Taiwanese publishing company, Locus Publishing, and the U.S. President is Jesse Poe. The $149 kit includes a set of 40 cubes along with “command cubes.” To use the system, you can bring a command cube up to the camera and then drop a few of the language cubes. The system shows you if you’ve created a real Chinese world along with the definition. To learn Chinese you do the same but with the interactive software that runs you through drills using the cubes and shows you how to build words and sentences out of simple ideas.(via http://techcrunch.com/2014/04/21/chinesecubes-are-cubes-that-teach-you-chinese/?ncid=rss)

With a "Dream magnifier", a latest smart phone with high-resolution camera and augmented reality (AR) technology, visitors can find themselves singing as pop stars, playing basketball as NBA players, performing surgery as doctors, even flying around as supermen ... in those miniature worlds. Not only the theme becomes alive via the special designed APP, each visitor transforms into an animated character with vivid facial expressions and body movements. During this journey, visitors can once again recall their childhood dreams and take a picture of those dreams as a digital souvenir to encourage themselves not to quit their dreams in the future!
There’s also a Pterosaurs card game designed by high school students in the museum’s Science For the Win (#scienceFTW) program. You can print out cards found online and use the app for some augmented-reality pterosaur fun.
The Pterosaurs exhibit is now open, and it runs through January 4, 2015.

In the Mary Magdalene scenario we introduced to the user an audio explanation of the piece, some general background information and a photographic overlay that showed the sculpture’s past place of residence (a church altar that was color-corrected in order to better match the lighting scheme of the room).
In the Judith scenario we connected pieces of explanatory text to the model with 3-D white lines. Supported by a particularly strong 3-D map, the experience provided a great sense of depth and space to the user without distracting from the physical object. In order to ensure that the lines were a pleasant shape and length we imported the reference point cloud into Maya before constructing the 3-D lines.(via http://augmentedblog.wordpress.com/2014/04/17/technical-insight-into-the-2014-dld-museum-tour/)
-The Metaio Toolbox: Easily creating 3-D tracking maps
The first step to develop the project was to visit the museum itself in order to come up with some ideas and generate our 3-D tracking maps with the Metaio Toolbox . Many of the assets would be created off-site so establishing an accurate reference that we could use back in the office was important. This was easy to do with the Metaio Toolbox, and within 2-3 attempts we had a satisfactory 3-D tracking model that we could later use in the Metaio Creator . We could also load our point-clouds into Autodesk products for designing more complicated 3-D content by extracting them as an OBJ file from the Metaio Creator.

Back in the 19th century, Charles Caleb Colton coined the phrase ‘Imitation is the highest form of flattery,’ but he never touched on what is actually gained by the imitator. Presumably, the person being copied achieved something worth knowing. But with Ghost Glasses, you get to avoid misinterpretations and ensure that whatever it is you are trying to learn is being taught by a pro.(via http://www.psfk.com/2014/04/ghost-glasses-teaching-overlay.html#!E3Cig)

Considering a future wherein cinematic experiences are participatory, audiences would interact with narratives as if they were concurrently films and video games. Enter: "Leviathan," an experimental leap forward in cinematic technique that heralds such an evolution:(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqCLxcEbnO8&feature=youtube_gdata#aid=P9-2wAFMgIw)
This past January, in collaboration with Intel Labs, the USC School of Cinematic Arts World Building Media Lab unveiled "Leviathan," at CES 2014's Intel CEO Keynote speech. As the audience used Intel Ultrabooks and tablets to simultaneously control flying jellyfish creatures that swam alongside the eponymous augmented reality behemoth, Leviathan soared off the screen and into the crowd, yielding an as-of-yet unparalleled mixture of film and gaming experience. "Immersive storytelling" doesn't even begin to describe it.
The project integrated both the physical and digital universes by using a multimedia platform that may very well set a precedent for future AR and immersive-narrative creativity. The Creators Project was fascinated by the collaboration between Intel Labs and USC's World Building program, and subsequently made a documentary that details the partnership, the project, and its unprecedented results (above).
